Hate is more than a four-letter word

Hate is more than a four-letter word,
it is a radicalising philosophy.
See the righteous rage of fundamentalist religion,
Sacrificing human rights for political gain,
Empowering few, enslaving more: creating division,
Perceiving no evil and causing great pain.

Hate is more than a four-letter word,
it is a cancer, a state of mind.
Conflating ambition, both petty and grand,
hate builds superpowers, caliphates and empires, it wages war,
influencing the future in ways that we can’t yet understand.
Serpentine and slick, it has a hideous allure.

Hate is more than a four-letter word,
It is the downside of indifference.
It explains why only some babies must die
It secures its future in space while despoiling the earth.
It justifies how justice is denied so many, and why
even today, women and girls have so little worth.

Hate is more than a four-letter word,
It is the easy way out,
the effort to learn too fraught with compromise and disappointment.
Moving beyond mere lip service
and articulating our direct involvement
calls for courage to venture beyond our bliss.

Hate is much, much more than a four-letter word
It is the real root of all that is evil.
It moves men in armies, in the present and the past.
Building new silos to the god, Ambition,
Taking charge, re-writing our narratives past.
Tempting us to forget our histories and our mission.

Hate is more than a four-letter word,
It is a fuel of a kind.
Born of fear, it drives some to destroy, and others to innovate.
It sooths or it burns, inspires or subdues
Like any other fire that warms or conflagrates.
It is a dichotomy of possibility, a multiplicity of views.
