This is not my birthday… I wanted to write something to mark the moment during YESTERDAY’S celebrations of the day on which I was born, but for the second time this week, I have failed to mark a momentous occasion in my life. So, I’ll celebrate belatedly by saying “Welcome, Fern” and “Happy (belated) birthday to me!”
I have learned something about myself in noting that I tend to become caught up in my joy whenever I am experiencing it… I suppose that this cannot be unexpected since joy is supposed to be experienced first and then commemorated in poetry or prose or song, but rarely does someone take time from his or her joy in order to write about it… In fact, writing about it must be near the bottom of their To Do List.
In any event, I would like to welcome our new seven-week old puppy, Fern, into our lives. She arrived on Saturday, covered in ticks and fleas, but we’ve made some serious inroads on getting our little princess healthy again. I am VERY proud of her, and of her tough little attitude. I’ve never had a flea or tick attack, but my brother (who really is a vet) tells me that she must be suffering terribly. Yet, she’s as frisky and adorable as anything that I’ve ever seen. I remember falling helplessly in love with Danny, my mixed breed German Shepherd-Rottweiler, when I met him first. Well, this was just like that! I remember how my little Doberman Pincher look-alike, Chase, grew on me… Well, this is just like that!
I have celebrated another personal milestone also: I have become a muse to my first geek! Thanks for the two poems that you wrote for me for my birthday Gil! It was both pleasant, and a surprise. I feel honoured to think that I could inspire a man of science to try his hand at writing poetry. I don’t know about you, but I feel safer in a world where our scientists still have souls.
