Empty Nest

* For my friend, Alex.

The silken web, woven for protection, offers little against man’s caprice.
Try as I might, I do nothing to soften my calluses.
Shards of glass aimed at my heart, warn me of impending danger.
Yet, when an old soul still dreams, it is a good thing, young one.
Faith in Man, even now, lives in your heart, astounding me.

Your strength will take you further than I dare go. So soar with my blessing.
Dream your dreams; live them when you awaken to your magical world.
Carry the prayers of your ancestors in your backpack, and walk well with guardian angels.
I have watched you from afar, and been inspired to let you live without my fear.
So, I cannot take this journey with you; I have one of my own.

    Beautifully constructed and very moving. There are many levels to this, particularly on the emotional and relationship levels, all of which bring many images and thoughts to mind.
